HELSINKI, Finland, July 2021. King Chulalongkorn Memorial Hospital in Bangkok, Thailand, has chosen Finnish software company Euformatics as the provider of NGS quality control and variant interpretation software tools as it starts growing its NGS test capabilities.

One of the top 10 hospitals in Thailand according to the 2021 Newsweek rankings, King Chulalongkorn Memorial Hospital (KCMH) has been at the forefront of driving NGS testing in Thailand and one of the first hospitals in the country to start using the technology. It is also the home of the Excellence Center for Genomics and Precision Medicine, Department of Paediatrics, established in 2019 with the mission to “provide comprehensive clinical genomic services for patients with genetic diseases, [create] new knowledge and [generate] innovations in genomics and precision medicine, and [provide] training in these fields.” (https://chulalongkornhospital.go.th/kcmh/en/ec)

Euformatics’ Omnomics Suite of bioinformatics software tools includes the CE-marked omnomicsNGS decision support tool for variant interpretation and reporting, as well as the most comprehensive sample quality control tool on the market. Both products have been successfully taken into use at KCMH, in the first instance for use in paediatric germline testing, but later for WES and WGS in other fields as the testing capacity of the hospital expands.

“The key for us in deciding which software to choose as we develop our testing capacity was the user-friendliness. omnomicsNGS is very easy to use, giving us all the information we need and with really strong filtering techniques. We are confident that as we scale our operations, omnomicsNGS will continue to be the tool for us. The guidance and support that we have received from Euformatics has helped us to make sure that we get the most out of the software, and we are confident that the data we generate can be used successfully to make a positive difference to the lives of our patients” comments Dr Kanya Suphapeetiporn, Professor of Paediatrics and Head of Division of Medical Genetics and Metabolism at KCMH.

Euformatics Jamie McDonald

“King Chulalongkorn Memorial Hospital is helping to drive the transition in Thailand towards medicine that makes the most of NGS. We are pleased that they have chosen Euformatics to provide them with the essential software tools needed to ensure that their NGS testing capabilities can continue to expand efficiently and with the trust that the data generated is of top quality. We are looking forward to working with KCMH to develop their capabilities and ensure that NGS testing becomes an even more common analysis method for medical professionals in Thailand” adds Jamie McDonald, Euformatics Account Executive responsible for the company’s regional expansion in South-East Asia.

The company has previously made it clear that 2021 is the year it plans to significantly expand its global customer base through signing distribution agreements and key national-level players. The new partnership with KCMH brings a local champion to Thailand and paves the way for further success in the region as NGS-based capabilities continue to expand.

The deal brings Euformatics software tools to another customer in Thailand after Bumrungrad Hospital in Bangkok started using their tools under a white-label agreement with partner BC Platforms.
